The BOWMAN Accu-Riser Bow
The really true innovation in archery technology is a rare occurrence. This generally happens when an engineer, modern thinker, or just an archer with a creative idea and with painstaking trial and error comes up with a truly remarkable bow
The Accu-Riser bow, created by Stewart Bowman, is a modern twenty-first century bow that fits into this category. This surely isn't the first forward handle bow, or the first swivel grip bow, but this is the best looking, best design and best shooting. Stewart Bowman, after fifteen years in the pursuit of equipment excellence, finally arrived at this unique design. The Accu-Riser, just in the design, is the smoothest, most forgiving bow on the market today. Since it has the unique reflex design an arrow approximately three inches shorter may be used, without the use of the overdraw.
The bow that Stewart Bowman sent me is his top of the line competition bow that he calls the Bowman Accu-Riser. This top of the line target bow arrived with the riser anodized in violet color, not just a violet, but a shimmering ultra violet, in one of the best anodizing that we have seen on competition bows.
The length of the handle riser is approximately 23 inches and is center-shot to approximately ¾ inch from center of arrow to the riser to allow for maximum tunability and for greater fletching clearance. The riser is milled from 6061-T6 aluminum alloy into the "Super-Lite" I beam construction for extra strength and totally resistant to any flex or vibration. The elegant milling of the handle riser not only creates a light weight handle but a piece of work that should win some awards for product design. The extended grip is held in place with two 3/8 inch - 4inch long rods and they are held firmly in place with two Allen screws both top and bottom.
The extended grip is contoured of magnesium, black powder coated, and is mounted on two friction free swivel bearings to allow absolutely no torque to be transmitted to the bow during the shot. While the primary reason for the extended swivel grip is to eliminate shots due to bow handle torque, it also allows for extremely fine draw length adjustments, and can also be used to slightly change the angle of the grip to accommodate for either high or low wrist shooting styles.
The length of the limbs, for this particular bow that was sent me, are 16 inches in length, black in color and are recurve carbon laminated to add additional beauty to the bow. The wheel slot is 3 3/8 inches long and ¾ inches wide. A bright reinforcing button is installed at the base of the slot.
The machined aluminum high performance eccentrics are hard black anodized, complete with lifetime bushings and are held in place with hardened, ground and polished "super" axles, for an extremely smooth draw. The eccentrics come with modules, and on this particular bow, at my 26 inch draw, number 8 was installed. Four different modules can be used to extend the draw length to 30 inches.
The cable guard rod is 3/8 inch in diameter and dog legged to obtain required clearance. It is located near true center to equalize cable offset and is held securely in place with two Allen head screws.
I know that the newest trend involving the yoke systems are to the soft yoke systems attached to the outside of the limbs but sometimes the tried and true methods are just as equal on what we are trying to accomplish. This system that Stewart Bowman uses on his bow allows for micro adjustments for fine tuning for the roll-over of the eccentrics. The Accu-Riser bow is available in 4 different length of limbs, allowing the bow maker to accommodate archers who wish a different length bow for their style of shooting. These different lengths from 38 inches axle to axle to 46 inch axle to axle surely will satisfy any archer.
Stewart Bowman also offers several color choices. They come in black, violet, turquoise, violet two tone, neon yellow, red and, of course, camo color for the many bows that he manufactures for the bowhunters.
All models are available in almost any poundage ranging from extremely light weight to 100 pounds, both right and left hand. This bow is remarkably easy to tune and with a few minor adjustments for my style of shooting was ready to sight in. The Accu-Riser bow is nice to handle and very good balance in the hand. The draw is pleasant and even with soft cams, nothing was harsh during the peak draw and the let off. Noise level was very low in spite of the excellent speed of this bow, especially with my A/C/E carbon arrows. There was very little objectional recoil or shock after the shot. Encourage your favorite archery pro shop to give a look at this bow. You will be impressed.
